Odysseus returns to Aeaea and buries Elphenor. He spends the night with Circe and she tells him of the obstetrical he will face. The first object they pass were the sirens. To evade their enchanting song that would drive their ship into the jagged rocks the crew filled their ears with wax. Odysseus chose to hear the song so he had his crew lash him to the mast and when he struggled his crew tightened his bonds and added some more rope. Once they were far enough away not to here the sirens song the crew unplugged their ears and freed Odysseus. Next they navigate between Scylla and Charybdis. Charybdis is an enormous whirlpool that threatens to swallow the ship. Scylla is a six headed monster and when the ships pass each head eats a sailor. Next they come to the island Thrinacia which is the island of the sun. Odysseus does not wish to step foot on the island but Eurylochus persuades him and most of the crew. There is a storm and they end up stranded there for a whole month. When the ship's provisions run out they disobey Odysseus's orders and slaughter the cattle of the sun. When the sun finds out he asks Zeus to punish them for what they have done. When the crew sets sail Zeus creates another storm and the entire crew dies except for Odysseus. He floats back on driftwood and passes through Charybdis again. He eventually reaches Ogygia. He stops his tale there.
